Automatic Pool Cleaners Automatic pool cleaners are an absolute timesaver for those busy homeowners whose chore it is to clean the pool! With all of the fun that comes with swimming in an at-home pool, there is the inevitable day when the pool needs to be cleaned. And it is always better if you clean your pool regularly and as part of a routine. Don’t wait until the water looks dirty to think about cleaning your pool! No matter what safeguards you have set up for those who swim in your pool, such as rinsing off before getting into the pool, your pool will always need to be maintained and cleaned on a regular basis. As every pool owner knows, it’s just a fact of life. There have been many innovations in pool cleaners over the years. There is even a high-tech self-cleaning tile for the walls of pools that will soon be on the market. But automatic pool cleaners have to be the best development for saving time and ensuring pool sanitation. [Pullout:
] Automatic pool cleaners have also been called ‘pool cleaning robots’ although they really don’t look like robots. These cleaners - consisting of a drive motor, a pump and a processor - clean the surface of swimming pools. The pump draws water from the robot’s bottom where the intake valves are, through the filter and out to the top outlet of the cleaner. During this process, debris and dirt that are on the pool surface are vacuumed into the filter section, and any bigger particles stay in the robot’s filter unit until removed after the cycle is done, similar to emptying a vacuum cleaner bag. The drive motor is designed to propel the automatic cleaner forward but it doesn’t determine which route the cleaner takes once it’s inside the pool. The movement of the cleaner is, for the most part, random in its direction. There are advanced models that have a processor that enables it to remember the size and shape of the swimming pool. This advanced model can determine the most efficient route to clean the entire pool.
